"IcyHeat" at Lake Baikal
First solo kayak circumnavigation of the deepest lake in the world; 1,700 km
In spring 2003 we will travel to the deepest lake of the world (1 mile!) - the Lake Baikal in Siberia. On our 1,350 miles paddling trip without back-up in sea kayaks (like A Fight to the Finish by "doc holiday" Sea Kayaker Magazine 2000/02) - we will have the pleasure of enjoying the icy nature straight for some 70 days.
The journey will start near Duisburg, Germany with the railway via Hanover to Moscow, Russia, and then we shall proceed with the Tran Siberian Railway to Irkutsk (Listvyanka) where we will launch our kayaks.
For more than two months they will be our home and because of the limited space minimalism will be one of our maxims. Nevertheless we don't believe in "stone-age-philosophy" and therefore we will be able to use a technology in order to give radio interviews via satellite.
In addition the project evaluation will be shown daily on this homepage (about 15 piX & 100 words) from early of April 2003 to encourage you to follow our trip here on that site. Further more we will make a video documentation as well as thousands of piX in order to publish the best parts of our adventure.
Whenever you would like to sponsor our paddling
-however- you are welcome and let us know!
