The Japanese "Way" of "Kaizen" (jap. perfection) is based on an awareness, that "problems" are ubiquitous. This recongnition "works" together on the solution of these realized problems in order "to make things better" and to perfect the "process".
"As a result it is an enhancement of the quality (of a thought) at the beginning."
At first the origin of every "improvement" is the awareness of an existing "problem" and it's realisation.
In many companies and especially in Germany and it's companies "problems" are basically non-existent, which is impressively shown by German banks and their "Salami" technique to squeeze out information about their inability with the Real Estate Slump. Nobody is involved, nobody has done anything wrong, all fine... but we are "bank"rupt now. Hm, no idea, how that happened? "But hej, WE haven't done anything wrong!"
The reason is very simple: They always get away with it, don't matter what they do! The CEOs usually get the "Golden Hand Shake" and settle for penion or get an even better post - inability pays(!) nowadays and the hepless tax payers get ripped off to pay the bill as usual. The "German Boss-bank" had a PR slongan: "Succuess is the result of correct decisions...!" but they erased that quickly, too. I wonder why!
LaoTse once said, that even a BIG problem could have been easily solved when it was little!
But of course, if there is no problem,...
